Fingerprints & footprints

Personalize now or later. If you choose later, you'll receive a link in your order confirmation to a personalization form to complete.

Most orders take 3-4 weeks to receive; this timing is affected by when prints are submitted and proof is approved.

Take & Submit Prints
  • Easily take clear prints with a plain, black ink pad or follow the Pencil & Tape Method

You will be notified when prints are received.  Prints need to be received no later than 14 days prior (18 days for canvas/framed) to when you need the poster without incurring additional rush fees.  International delivery times vary, averaging 2-3 weeks; prints are needed 5 weeks prior to event.

Review Proof

  • Digital proof sent 7-10 business days after prints received
  • Approve the proof or request changes (color and text only) 
  • Production time of 3-5 business days after proof approved
Taking Fingerprints
Please follow these guidelines and submit your prints promptly for a quicker turnaround time; no later than 14 days before your event to receive your order on time.
2 Ways to Take Fingerprints

Regular Black Ink Pad
• Cover tip of fingertip with black ink
• Take prints on a blank piece of paper (blank on both sides)
• Push finger straight down and don't roll it
• To achieve clear fingerprint lines, do not to press too hard
• Take prints separately, not in a heart shape
• Label prints with names
• Do several tries to get a good  print
• Take and send photos of prints

Pencil & Tape Method
• Use a pencil to make a dark, glossy patch of graphite on a piece of paper
• Gently rub fingertip on pencil mark
• Fingertip should be dark with graphite
• Put the sticky side of a piece of clear tape on fingerprint
• Stick tape to blank, white paper
• Label with names
• Do several tries to get a good  print
• Take and send photos of prints

If you don't have access to a scanner, or are unsure how to get the best quality, you can mail your prints to: Flutterbye Designs, P.O. Box 520153, Salt Lake City, UT 84152-0153.  If the prints are not a high resolution, a lot of the detail of the print will be lost.  Copy and print shops usually offer scanning services as well.

Taking Paw & Nose Photos
Please follow these guidelines and submit your prints promptly for a quicker turnaround time; no later than 14 days before you need product to receive your order on time.

This photo is not ideal.  It is blurry, low resolution, and the paw is not straight to the camera.

Tips for Good Photos
  • Check your camera to ensure that it is set at a high-quality mode.
  • Locate your pet in a well-lit area; outside in natural light is a great choice.
  • Try to avoid heavy shadows over the paw/nose. Check that your head, camera or hand are not casting dark shadows.
  • Paws are also best captured if the fur between the paws is trimmed short.
  • Hold your camera steady so that the camera is in focus. It may be easiest to have someone helping you.

    • This photo is not ideal.  The nose is too blurry and the photo is low resolution; some details will be lost.

  • Take several pictures to ensure you have some that are in focus.  A recommended distance from the paw to your camera is about 8-10 inches.
  • Take photo straight on; avoid paw/nose turned to the side.
  • If you have multiple pets, please indicate which photo belongs to which pet.  
  • In many cases the print can be extracted from a photo of a clay imprint.
  • Email photos to info@flutterbyeprints.com or upload with order
    • It's true that some of the details will be lost with older or lower-quality photos, however most of the print can still be captured and every effort is made to get the best print possible if you are unable to get a high-quality photo.

    Inkless Print Kits available at Flutterbye Prints are NOT recommended for use with pet paws/noses; they do not create clear prints in most cases.

     Send Photos
      •   Take photo on a mostly solid background (white is best) in a well-lit area with a relaxed, non-smiling face.
      •   Photograph from the side and at the same level as eyes.
      •   Long hair looks best when pulled up into a bun, ponytail, pigtail or braids.
     •    Be sure to include the shoulders and the entire head.
      •   You may submit multiple photos to choose from.
